Some entrepreneurial management student probably starts selling merchandise of UA students, going through all the proper channels and following all the copyright and trademark rules, just to sell little plushies of the heroes-in-training. They have a limited run (like only of a few months, probably because the enterprise gets shut down eventually).
(Kirishima’s Red Riot plushie has the roundest cheeks and softest spikey hair and the plush is “hardened” but its really just delicate upraised stitching that mimics his quirk. Its super cute and a best seller. Definitely top ten.)
Bakugou’s plushie is unnamed and doesn’t sell as well as Kirishima’s but it does okay. It has an angry little black thread snarl and Kirishima sleeps with one and when Bakugou sees it, he gets flustered (and a little jealous) and mostly accidentally explodes it.
Kirishima gets really quiet and laughs it off, but he’s pretty sad because no more are being made.
Cue Bakugou hunting down that management student and threatenssigns away his soulnegotiates to have more made (it’s a special order, poor Bakugou is the asshole who has to order 100 little plushes of himself and carry the box through campus into the dorms) just to replace the one he destroyed.
Bakugou leaves the entire box outside Kirishima’s door.
The next time he’s in Kirishima’s room, there’s a mini Bakugou plush everywhere. There are a dozen just in Kirishima’s bed (and he cuddles all of them). Kirishima greets them all cutely and asks how they are (because Kirishima is cute and also it makes Bakugou speechless).
Bakugou is magenta in flustered rage, but he knows this is a hell of his own creation. At least Kirishima is happy, even though Bakugou looks over once and Kirishima impulsively kisses the nearest plushie right on its scowly face.
(Kirishima also, by the way, hides Bakugou plushes around the dorm. The other students find them everywhere. Kaminari finds a tiny angry Bakuou in the cupboards, among the bowls. Momo finds several in the laundry room, each Bakugou guarding a washing machine. One sits in the fridge, on top of a carton of eggs.
So I think it’s pretty obvious by now that the reception to season 7 has been less than… good. The fan base has been shattered. People are upset, angry, and abandoning this series in droves (I’ve lost over 50 followers as I write this, just from people no longer wanting anything to do with this show) and have been incredibly vocal as to the reason why.
They killed Adam.
After two weeks of receiving praise for the relationship that was revealed at San Diego Comic Con, fans discovered on Friday night that Adam’s existence would be short lived, further contributing to this popular “Bury Your Gays” trope.
And I’ve seen people confused at this outcry. They don’t understand why people are so upset at this tiny side character’s death. What’s the big deal, right? It’s war! There’s supposed to be casualties!
And to that kind of response I have to narrow my eyes and go:
“Oh…. maybe you understand the history of this.”
Because it is a history. A rich one. “Bury your gays” isn’t a trope in the same why that “Fake dating” is a trope. It’s not popular out of coincidence and I feel like many people are ignorant of that, which is FAIR! Because most voltron fans are young, most tumblr users are young, so I don’t expect you to be watching documentaries on LGBT+ cinema in between studying for your chemistry exams.
So that’s where I come in. Buckle in children as I take you on a journey on why the “Bury your gays” trope exists, and the harmful ramifications that it has had on the LGBT+ community since its inception.
I think Sero Hanta is criminally underrated so I’m making a week to celebrate and highlight his ships!!

In response to the NSFW ban being enacted by Tumblr Staff, on December 17th 2018 I propose that we all log off of our Tumblr accounts for 24 hours.
The lack of respect and communication between staff and users is stark. Users have been begging staff to delete the porn bot outbreak, which has plagued the website for well over a year. The porn bots oftentimes send people asks and messages, trying to get them to go to a website full of viruses. They also spam advertisements on others posts.
Users have also begged that Tumblr ban neo-nazis, child porn, and pedophiles, all which run rampant on the site. The site/app got so bad that it was taken off the app store.
However, instead of answering the users, Tumblr has instead taken the liberty to ban all NSFW content, regardless of age. But users have already run into issues of their SFW content being marked as sensitive and being flagged as NSFW, not allowing them to share their work.
Not only does this discriminate again content creators, but it also discriminates against sex workers. Disgustingly, the ban will be enacted on December 17 which is also International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.
This ban is disgusting, and while I (and plenty of others) welcome porn bots and child porn being banned, the Tumblr filtration system is broken. It tags artistic work’s nipples as NSFW (when it is art), it tags SFW art as NSFW (when it is not), and does not stop the porn bots, neo-nazis and dozens of other issues.
This ban is discriminatory. This ban is ineffective. This ban is unacceptable.
To protest, log off of your Tumblr account for the entirety of November 17th. Log off at 12 am EST or 9PM PST and stay off for 24 hours. Don’t post. Don’t log on. Don’t even visit the website. Don’t give them that sweet ad revenue.
Tumblr’s stock has already taken a hard hit. Let’s make it tank. Maybe then they will listen to the users.
